  • Sad, but better a $5/$50 than nothing.

I wish that Publix in my area would accept $5/$50 Winn Dixie coupons! There are no Winn Dixies anywhere even close to me. Saying that, I know that this will be a shock to the people who are used to being able to use the $5/$30 coupons all of the time.

    Noooooo... say it ain't so!
  • I just read the comments over there. EtC is going to run out of the $5/$30 books today. They promised to fill orders with the remaining $5/$30 books before using the new $5/$50 books, but they don't know how many $5/$30s are left in stock and will not make any guarantees. People who order today have a chance of getting some of the remaining $5/$30 books, but it's just a chance.

This is such a bummer! This will probably encourage me to price match even more at Walmart.
  • I'm sure it is Winn Dixie and not ETC that is making this change. To be honest, I was always surprised that they even put out a $5/$30 as I have only ever seen a $5/$50 Catalina at WD.
  • maiaayamaiaaya ✭✭✭
I'm always curious how many $5/$30 coupons are actually used at WD, rather than at Publix!
  • The Ebay price of the $5/$30 coupons will explode when people realize they have been replaced with a $5/$50. Those $5/$30 coupons used to sell for around $0.50 each before Ebay cracked down on coupon sales. Now they sell for around $1.25 each. Who knows what they'll be selling for in a few weeks.

This will definitely change the way I shop for my family a great deal! :( I will probably be at the store a lot less due to holding out for a higher dollar shop or going to WM more. In the end it may not be worth it to me to even purchase the $5/$50 WD Q's unless ETC takes a drastic reduction in their pricing! So sad!

Yes I agree it will be a game changer for me I think. I used to shop a lot at Target until the $5/$30 WD q's. Then I went to Publix more and almost completely stopped shopping at Target. My store lets me use multiple WDs at a time so this is truly going to hurt.
  • Right now I use about 2-3 of these each week at Publix. When I run out at the end of the year I will probably not buy them.

It's hard to believe that these really had much affect on WD. It seems like they are used mainly at Publix.

Thank you so much for posting this! I grabbed some off ebay before prices skyrocket.

  • I imagine that in 2015...(after our current $5/30 expire...) I will be "using" the $5/$40 found in the newspaper more often than giving them to the customer behind me at the checkout.

I am wondering if this was an effort to clean those books out since they must be swimming in them since they went up to $2.50 a book. The end of year price will be horrendous!

I think this was all planned by Bi-Lo/Winn-Dixie to win back some market share against Publix:

    1) Buy out Sweetbay and convert the stores to Winn-Dixie to have a bigger footprint

    2) Start taking competitor coupons

    3) Change the $5 off $30 coupon (that they know a very large number of are being used at Publix)

    4) Based on what I see on the forum and in talking to my mother (she lives near a Winn-Dixie, I do not), WD is becoming more competitive in both everyday pricing and sale pricing.

All of these combined hint at a direct marketing plan against Publix. It'll be interesting to see how it all plays out.

Additionally, the reason the Tampa and Southwest Florida areas receive the nice newspaper coupons, is because their areas contain the highest number of viable competitor(s). It was Sweetbay and WD, now just a bigger WD. I think those areas will continue to see special promotions from Publix continuing for the foreseeable future.

I will continue to buy the coupons, I would much rather spend $45 than $50 plus they have great moneymakers and great stacked deals....But best of all for me it's not WALMART!!!!!

You all still have it better than alot of us who are in areas with no Winn Dixies and few $/$$ coupons.

  • Exactly, @johne. It is still money off. I think we get caught up in being greedy sometimes.

I'm sorry that you feel we are being greedy. I'm fairly certain that if you would lose "double" coupons you would be sad for the loss of the extra savings.

  • I will still want to have some $5/$50s on hand, but I will be making fewer trips to Publix and Winn Dixie and will be really hoping the BOGO-matching continues at WalMart.

I would not call it greedy to project the need for fewer WD $/$$ coupons. When the gas card deal only required $25 in groceries to get $10 off a $50 gas card, I bought many more gas cards than I currently do now that the grocery minimum is $50. When only WD $5/$50s are available, I'll be making fewer trips to Publix and Winn Dixie and will be going to WalMart more for as long as the BOGO-matching continues.

I know that I did not say that anybody was being greedy-but I would trade double coupons in a minute for the ability to use Winn Dixie $5/$50 coupons and true BOGO. Double coupons can be nice and do amount to some savings-but they are not all they are cracked up to be(although I rarely shop at Kroger since they stopped doubling). Walmart around here does not do BOGO at their price either here. I am not trying to cause any trouble-just trying to put some perspective to things. Please don't be offended. I know that any loss of savings by anyone, anywhere is not a pleasant thing to go through.
